Thank you Krista with LAVIDGE Publishing for a review copy of this book.  My opinion of this book is my own.

Synopsis

Joshua is at the beach with his parents when he decides to ride a wave.  He is thrown into the air by something in the water. He rolls over and over in the water and the waves toss him into the air onto some rocks.  He is a little dazed and confused, but awoke to a loud pounding noise.

He meets an otter named Rocky.  Rocky compliments him on riding the wave. Joshua lets him know that he loves riding the waves and to go far out into the ocean.  Rocky does not like to go far out into the ocean with the other otters.  That’s how he got his name because he likes to stay close to the rocks.

Joshua decides to help Rocky conquer his fear of the ocean by convincing Rocky to come over to a cove.  Rocky gathers his courage and swam to Joshua.

Joshua spots some air balloons and asks Rocky to swim to the wharf.  They sneak into a balloon and further discover the ocean and clouds, but things take a turn and now Joshua must now trust Rocky.

Will Joshua trust Rocky to complete their adventure?

“It just takes courage.”

My Thoughts

I love how this book uses friendship to conquer fear.  The adventure was fun and makes you root for them to face their fears and explore.  It is always an amazing thing to find someone or have someone encourage us to face our fears. The illustrations went perfectly well with the adventure.

This is a story that will definitely help children find courage and also allow children to consider ways they can help others find their courage.
