Synopsis

“Parenting is the best and most rewarding experience of one’s life…but it can also be the hardest and most confusing.” Christine Kyriakakos Martin, You’ve Got This! Keys to Effective Parenting For the Early Years

You’ve Got This! Keys to Effective Parenting For the Early Years is an encouragement to parents everywhere and provides amazing tips for parenting.  Martin shares a discussion and provides techniques with each topic. These topics are very useful for early age development, and help bring some ease to parents.  Some of the topics include: Attachment and Bonding, Bedtime, Eating Habits and Picky Eaters, Family Time, Gross Motor Development, Parenting In The Fast Lane, and many more.

Some of the favorite topics for me were Bedtime, Challenging Behaviors, Diversity and Disability Awareness, and Parenting in the Fast Lane. I can go on and on.

I am currently working on bedtime with my daughter and enjoyed the tips she gave. For example, Understand Your Child’s Particular Sleep Needs and Offer Choices to Give Children Control like letting him/her choose his/her pajamas.

Some of the tips for challenging behavior include: Intervene Early, Be Consistent, and Don’t Avoid Social Interactions

I love how she included diversity and disability awareness because that is my career field.  Martin stated, “It’s becoming increasingly important to teach children, even very young children, to appreciate all of the beautifully diverse people that make up our world”. I love that!!

Parenting in the fast lane was another one because it fits my life some at the moment, but when my daughter gets older I know that our life will be busier.  My favorite techniques from this section are Think of all the Things Your Child CAN Do and Make Mornings Memorable.

Not only does Martin provide her expertise and experience, she shared quotes from other parents and experts.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with parenting or looking for tools to assist with parenting? This book will provide much guidance.

My Thoughts

As a first time mom, I want to make sure I have many resources I can utilize for parenting. I try not to read too many parenting books so I do not stress myself out or overanalyze what I am doing or not doing as a parent. This book was just what I needed as a resource. It was written in a way that did not put pressure on you, but reassures you that You’ve Got This!

If you are like me and like to check out the table of contents before reading, do not be overwhelmed by how many topics there are.  The topics are just the right length and easy to follow.

I recommend this book, especially for new parents.  Not only read it, but also utilize the tips that are given and remember that You’ve Got This!
