Reigniting The Spark (Book Review)
Reigniting The Spark: Why Stable Relationships Lose Intimacy,
and How to Get It Back
By Dr. Bruce Chalmer
-Book Review
Thank you Maria with TCK Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.
My opinion of this book is my own.
Synopsis
Sometimes in relationships couples lose the spark. Dr. Chalmer’s book helps couples reignite their spark by exploring the issues they may be facing. He helps them restore key areas in their lives.
Dr. Chalmer’s explains the two gold gifts: stability and intimacy. “You will need to get good at both if you want your relationship to work.”
Throughout the book he discusses other topics such as anxiety, panic, trauma, faith, forgiveness, and how they all affect a relationship.
He utilizes examples of couples with realistic stories to show how each topic can make or break a relationship. He also provides questions at the end of the chapters to reflect upon.
My Thoughts
Even though I am not in a committed relationship at this time, I found this book very helpful in thinking about ways to build or prepare for a future relationship.
Some things that I took away from Dr. Chalmer:
“Character is the key to stability in relationships.”
“Intimacy is how people interact with the world to get what they need.”
“Deprive an organism of its needs, and it will become sick. Instability is relational sickness-too much of it and the relationship dies.”
Last but not least is “Be kind and don’t panic.”
This book is helpful to couples whether they are starting out, lost the spark or having no major issues, and also for singles contemplating about entering a relationship.
