Black History is always taught or discussed in my household. I want to make sure that my daughter is aware of her history and people, and also what America can ultimately be with unity.  I am also working on some things just for her and will be so excited to share with you all when completed.  I wanted to focus on some inspiring and beautifully illustrated books for Black History Month. All these books can be found at eyeseeme.

1. One Love (Based On The Song by Bob Marley) Adapted by Cedella Marley and Illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton*

One love, one heart, let’s get together and feel all right!

This heartwarming picture book, adapted from one of Bob’s Marley’s most beloved songs, brings his joyful spirit and unforgettable lyrics to life for a new generation.  Readers will feel the beat and the positive rhythm of change when one girl enlists her friends, family, and community to help transform her neighborhood for the better.

Adapted by Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s oldest child, and gorgeously illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton, One Love is a colorful and upbeat testament to the amazing things that can happen when we all get together with one love in our hearts.

2.  We’re Different, We’re The Same And We’re All Wonderful! (Sesame Street) By Bobbi Jane Kates and Illustrated by Joe Mathieu*

We’re different.

Our noses are different.

We’re the same.

Our noses are the same.

They breathe and sniff and sneeze and whiff.

We’re Different, We’re the Same and We’re all Wonderful!

3. AFRO-BETS® ABC Book by Cheryl Willis Hudson*

The AFRO-BETS® ABC BOOK uniquely presents letters A through Z for young children to discover with the fun-filled, captivating AFRO-BETS® Kids.  The irresistible, colorful characters form letters of the alphabet in whimsical, motivating illustrations.  Each creatively shaped letter is reinforced by words and pictures.

The AFRO-BETS® ABC Book stimulates early learning experiences through positive, meaningful images-especially appealing to Black youngsters, but delightful for all children.  Early learners will love to learn with help of their lovable “new friends”-the AFRO-BETS® Kids.

4. A is for Activist Written and Illustrated by Innosanto Nagara*

A is for Activist.

Advocate. Abolitionist. Ally.

Actively Answering A call to Action.

Are you an activist?

I love how this book teaches about activism through the ABCs.

5. I like Myself! by Karen Beaumont, Illustrated by David Catrow*
