It’s Okay to Be a Unicorn by Jason Tharp

Thank you Morgan Dubin with Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for the opportunity to review this book.  My opinion of this book is my own. Book will be released February 2020.

Synopsis

Welcome to Hoofington, where Cornelius J. Sparklesteed lives. He lives with a secret in a community of horses.  He is a unicorn.  The horses are not nice to unicorns.  Cornelius does his best to remain friendly as he is designing hats and helping others with a festival coming up.

Cornelius gets the opportunity to be the closing act for the festival.  Will Cornelius reveal his secret or keep hiding under his hat?

My Thoughts

What a wonderful and colorful way to teach children to be kind.  This book also teaches children that is okay to be unique and no need to hide their true selves.  This is important especially now.  We need to equip children with the right tools to be comfortable with being unique.  This book is great to remind adults how to be kind.

About the Author and Illustrator (from Book and/or Press release)

Jason Tharp has dreamed of being an author and creating wacking worlds with fun characters since he was a kid.  Now as a grown-up kid, Jason is driven to help others embrace the magic of their story.  Jason has been promoting initiatives in schools throughout Ohio and on yourdreamslivehere.com, where he sells his kindness-related products with a portion of proceeds going to charity.  Jason has also been securing speaking gigs for himself at adult conferences, taking about kindness, inclusion, empathy, and how to build creativity and confidence.  In November his home city of Powell, OH, held the first annual KindFest, a free festival with a charitable donation focus.
