Inspire Literacy Roundup 1: Children’s Books October ’19

As we move to make literacy a big part of our blog outreach, we are starting to do book roundups as well as reviews. Some of the books I will read myself, others will just be featured. Our first one will be some fun and exciting children’s books to add as a holiday gift or add to your child/children’s library.

1. A Mischief of Monsters

This is a fun and interactive book to include for Halloween reading. Children can mimic sounds and actions of big and small monsters. I read this with my daughter, Leena, and we enjoyed reading and copying what the monsters were doing in the book.

2. Spy Penguins, Snazzy Cat Capers, and Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor*

Books: Spy Penguins, Snazzy Cat Capers, and Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor

These sets of books are for older children who love fun action books.  I love the title of these books and plan to share them with my little cousins.

Spy Penguins

Sure, Jackson and Quigley might officially be too young to join the FBI, but they aren’t going to let that stop them!  They just need to come up with the right plan to prove that they are worthy. But when one of Q’s inventions goes dangerously wrong, Jackson suddenly finds himself dropped right in the middle of an FBI stakeout.  There’s fishy business afoot at the city’s aquarium; rare fish are vanishing and not even the FBI can work out what’s going on.  It’s up to Jackson and Quigley to solve the crime!

Books: Spy Penguins and Spy Penguins: The Spy Who Loved Ice Cream

Spy Penguins: The Spy Who Loved Ice Cream

Jackson and Quigley were this close to joining the FBI, until Jackson’s mom found out and they ended up grounded instead. But at least they have Uncle Bryn’s birthday party to look forward to.  Yet when they get to the ice cream parlor, Jackson and Quigley quickly realize that something has gone very, very wrong, and Uncle Bryn is now suspected of being a master thief! Can Jackson and Quigley solve the case before Uncle Bryn is locked away forever?

Snazzy Cat Capers

International Cat Burglar Ophelia Von Hairball V adores jewels-the only thing she loves more is a challenge.  She’s never met a safe she couldn’t crack.

Now the Furry Feline Burglary Institute (FFBI) offers her the ultimate caper: Steal the giant Himalayan diamond and win the top award! There’s a catch! The FFBI sends an enthusiastic inventor to help Ophelia…but this cat works alone, and Oscar Fishgerald Gold smells fishy.  Can this smart, stealthy, and snazzy cat learn to work with a fantastic sidekick and prove she’s still the world’s most purr-fect burglar?

Books: Snazzy Cat Capers and Snazzy Cat Capers: The Fast and the Furriest

Snazzy Cat Capers, The Fast and the Furriest

When a thief steals a dangerous artifact from its vault, the Furry Feline Burglary Institute (FFBI) puts Ophelia in charge of stealing it back.  But when the cat’s away, the dogs will play.  The Central Canine Intelligence Agency (CCIA) is hot on her tail-and they want the artifact for themselves!  Ophelia will need some dashing disguises, great gadgets, and even a robo-dog to save the world in style!

Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor

An evil chef faces off against the god Thor, and a hen’s egg is caught in the crossfire.  It hatches into a powerful chick called Thundercluck, beloved by the gods but a target for villains everywhere.  When the wicked Under-Cook threatens the gods’ kingdom, there’s only one chicken who can scramble his scheme.

Books: Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor and Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor: Recipe for Revenge

Thunder Cluck! Chicken of Thor: Recipe for Revenge

The mighty chicken Thundercluck is in trouble.  He and Brunhilde have run a-fowl of the gods of Asgard, and the best friends must fly the coop.  But when a seasoned foe serves up more danger, it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire for these plucky heroes.  Can their friendship handle the heat…or will they both be cooked?

3. Rainbow Rangers*

Books: Rainbow Rangers: Rockin' Rainbow Colors, Rainbow Rangers: The Quest for the Confetti Crystal, Rainbow Rangers: To the Rescue!, and Rainbow Rangers: Meet the Team

I wish you all could have seen the excitement on my face when I opened the box with these books in them.  I had not heard of this series on Nick Jr. since my little one and I have not been watching Nick Jr. in awhile, so what did we do? We started watching the series, well I did (don’t judge me lol). I loved it!

I read this one with Leena, and as mentioned it is a great way to introduce color concepts.  We were able to read and practice naming colors.  Leena loved the book!
